The C-Section

I thought he made scrubs look sexy :)Scared to death, but smiling

Out he came!

Welcome to the world!

The golf club/clamps they used to hold me open! How disgusting is that!

Really, really gross!

Proud parents!

So relieved to have that behind us!

Berkeley "honked" his nose about 25 times when she first met him

Uncle Chris showing his softer side :)

My boys
Here are some pictures of the big day. I was terrified to have them cut me open and actually started crying, which is rare for me since I am not much of a crier, but it all went smoothly and I am so glad to have it over with. I think I prefer having babies vaginally as the recovery doesn't seem quite as extensive and it just seems so much more natural. Although, my first delivery was pretty rough too since my "lady friend" was completely cut in order to get Berkeley out. That was not a real pleasant recovery either. There are definitely pros and cons to both. My Dr. said if I have another baby there is no reason why I can't try to have it vaginally since I have had one successful delivery and the c-section was done solely because of positioning. That is why I love my Dr. I know many would say I would have to have all c-sections from here on out.
Thomas was a trooper. He said the only part that bothered him was when he saw the clamps they used to hold me open. None of the other stuff seemed to bug him. He did say that this birth was a little anti-climactic since they cut me open at 8:08 and Oliver was out by 8:10. I think with a normal labor you have 8-15 hours of excitement/anticipation and this just seemed a little less exciting and way more nerve racking.
We are so happy to have Oliver home and he is still so great. We almost don't feel like we have a baby in the house. He is a sleeper and the last 2 nights we have had to wake him up to eat. He is only getting up once a night and that is because we are making him! Hopefully he will keep these sleeping habits up!
Berkeley is warming up to him. When she first met him she didn't want to touch him except to 'honk' his nose about 25 times. I don't think she really knew what else to do with him. She now at least kisses him and tries to clean out his toes (cleaning out her toes is her new fascination). She does get upset when I breast feed and if I pump a bottle for him she will occassionally steal it and drink it. I figure it's not going to hurt her and if she thinks he has special milk and a special cup and wants to drink out of it, then I'm not going to freak out about it. Everyone has been wonderful about keeping her busy. She has barely been home. She has gone to the park almost every day and today Thomas' office shut down so they could take her to the fair! That is a first for that office, let me tell you :)
Well, I must go. I'm not sure how much of a priority this blogging thing will be in the next couple of months, but I will try my best. Hope you all are doing well and thank you again for all of your prayers, meals and help. We REALLY appreciate it.

Similarities & Differences

Berkeley at 2 days old
Oliver at 3 days old

At first we thought Berkeley & Oliver looked completely different, but looking back on Berkeley's first few days we saw many similarities, and a few differences. She had a much rounder face with a tiny little button nose, and he has a much narrower face with a bigger nose. The doctor said part of that could be because he didn't come through the birth canal and so his head didn't really undergo any major trauma. Anyway, you can decide for yourself who he looks like. Personally, I think he favors Thomas' side of the family, but I'm never good at telling these things :)

Oliver Has Arrived!

'Sleeping' Oliver
'Yawning' Oliver

'Stretching' Oliver

'Crying' Oliver

And Sleeping, Again!

Oliver was born on August 30th at 8:10 am. He weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and is healthy and happy. What a difference two extra weeks of being in the womb makes on a newborn baby. He has had no trouble eating and we have not had to deal with drip lines and feeding tubes like we did with Berkeley. He has been a dream so far. He didn't make a peep the whole way home from the hospital on Saturday and today we took him in for his 3 day check up and he slept through the entire ordeal. He had to get blood drawn to check his jaundice levels and when they poked his foot he just kept sleeping. We are head over heels in love and Thomas says if he keeps this behavior up, he wins the prize :) He has been lovely and I would have 10 more if they were all like him! Well, not really, but maybe a couple more, at least :) My house has been a frenzy of breastfeeding and pumping so I must scoot along to do those fun activities, but I'll write more about the entire ordeal later. Laura said the natives were getting restless and that I had better post some pictures, and being the obedient and submissive creature that I am (HA!!), here they are!
