My New Love

Some of my new glass creations!

Now comes the fun part...filling them!
To my husband's dismay, my love affair with cake plates has fizzled and I have found a new "mistress," if you will. Actually, let me clarify, I am still passionate about cake plates, but I am now enamored with apothecary jars. Surprisingly, Martha is not the culprit for my new found friends, rather Pottery Barn is. My poor husband is at a loss for words. He doesn't understand why I keep buying more glass when more babies are in our future. He feels that every piece of glass I continue to purchase is bound to get broken. In honor of my infatuation with glass, I tell him "Let's have a 'glass' is half full kind of attitude and believe that it will all make it through our child rearing days in one piece." He does not think this is funny, however, and hangs his head in utter despair and defeat. The poor dear, I know it will only make him stronger, but right now the mere mention of glass causes him to get a sour and disgusted look on his otherwise smiling countenance. Darling Thomas, if you're reading this, take heart, perhaps one day when I've passed on to the hereafter you'll fondly reminisce about my love of all things delicate, even in the midst of babies, puppies and chaos. Just remember, this too shall pass and eventually I might fall in love with something a little more durable and shatter-proof. I suppose that is something you can add to your prayer list along with a more sensible wife :) Love you husband, love you Martha, love you cake plates, love you apothecary jars!!!

Sterling was mesmorized by the tantalizing aromas in the kitchen!

We had a wonderful Christmas. Well, that is a bit of a stretch. It was a bit trying, actually. Traditionally, we spend Christmas Eve at Chris & Laura's house and stay the night. On Christmas morning we all (parents included) get up and make a huge breakfast and then Thomas & I head over for more festivities at the Potts house. This year we ended up going home at 11:30pm because Berkeley would not stop crying and go to sleep. She has been teething and I think all the hoopla caught up with her and she just lost it. I was running out of patience and we finally just decided to go home. As soon as she got into her own bed she fell right to sleep and slept for 9 hours. She was pretty cranky Christmas day as well so this Christmas will not go down in the history books as one of our favorites.

Chris is a Seahawk season ticket holder and Thomas got to go to the game with him on Christmas Eve. It was quite a unique experience and his ears were ringing when it was all over! They had a good time even though it was freezing cold and the Seahawks lost the game in the last 30 seconds. Another stellar performance from our guys! The boys were not in high spirits when they got home.

Laura and I had fun wrapping last minute gifts and getting our Christmas feast ready. I made an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms and Laura made Prime Rib, gorganzola mashed potatos, and fresh green beans with olive oil and garlic. I must say, it was a real pallet pleaser and Laura is the new master of meat. She gave the boys a run for their money as they usually don't let anyone else touch the meat. Since they were gone this year the task was left in her very capable hands and I think she has earned the pretigious title of "Meat Technician." Nice work Laura. My taste buds are still reeling from the deliciousness of it all!

After dinner we opened gifts. Berkeley got a new red Radio Flyer roadster and legos from the grandparents. She loves it and already lives for speed like her mother. She got some beautiful new clothes from Chris & Laura. She can't wait to wear her gorgeous red herringbone coat next year. She also got some darling lounge wear and a green vest that I wish I could fit into!

Christmas day was spent at Grandpa & Grandma Potts' house. Berkeley got to spend some time with her cousins and we had another delicious prime rib dinner. We missed Andy & Andrea this year. They spent Christmas in Idaho with Andrea's family. It wasn't the same without them and we're hoping to get them back next year! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with tons of love, laughter and special memories to hold onto throughout the new year.
