Oliver is 6 months old!

Achoo!

I can't believe it...Oliver is 6 months old already! He is sitting up all by himself and chatters all day long!
Berkeley, Oliver and I are all sick with colds. For some reason I thought breast fed babies were "invincible" and couldn't get sick, but the poor little guy sneezed all day long on Saturday and he is not sleeping very well. He also has really bad eczema all over his body (he looks like a leper) and wakes up scratching at it and makes it bleed. He just wants me to rock him and he scratches his head against my shirt until he falls asleep. Last night as I was rocking him, my nose started dripping and I had to use my shirt as my tissue because every time I sniffled it would startle him and he'd start to cry. It was miserable. I think I got about 2 hours of sleep and to top it all off I had to take Oliver in for shots this morning.
When I got there I had to get him undressed to weigh him and as I took off his pants I realized my hand was warm and gooey. He had a major blow out and it was all over his legs and all the way up his back. As I was trying to clean him up he started to scratch his eczema covered leg and he stuck his hand in the poo. I finally got him cleaned up and on the scale (he is up to 16 lbs 8 oz) and we got the shots done. I was feeding him to calm him down after the shots and sat him up to burp and then he spit up all over the floor.
I got all of that cleaned up, picked up Berkeley, got her home and down for a nap. I thought I would maybe get an hour to lay down while Berkeley and Oliver slept, but Oliver woke up after sleeping for 15 minutes, so no such luck. I didn't cry though. I wanted to, but I didn't. I did what I do best...I "put him to the breast" and turned on the TV. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. His legs are really sore from the shots so every time he moves he cries. His crying woke Berkeley up from her nap. Super. I went and got her and we all piled into my bed to watch Curious George. She apparently didn't want to watch him on TV...she wanted to play the George games on the computer, so while I was in the bathroom mopping up my own snotty nose, she proceeded to go into the media room and shut her thumb in the door. I heard her scream, dropped my tissue, ran into the hallway and saw her thumb literally stuck inside the closed door. I had to open it in order to remove the appendage. Thankfully it was not completely smashed, she was able to move it and it didn't require a trip to the emergency room. Hallelujiah!!!
I know that millions of women have gone through this before me and I know that millions more will go through it after me, but having sick kids really stinks. Right now it sucks to be me. This too shall pass, right???

Well, those days haven't totally passed on for me, but I do believe that the Lord helps us put them in perspective as we mature. You are amazing and having your beautiful kids helps you to practice the fruits of the spirit every day...hour...minute....

So that's the glamorous life of motherhood huh? I would have been in tears! You always make everything look so effortless, but I know you work very hard at taking care of your family. I'm sorry you guys aren't feeling well. I love his 6 month pictures, he is such a cutie!

Oh Lis, I feel your pain girl. Makes me want to come over and give you a break! But, then I would get sick, so I guess I am just not THAT selfless. :)
But yes, moments like these will soon be an all too distant memory and someday you might even miss the poop up the back explosions..:)
